Working Together for Your Business Success

Tijaaro Microfinance is a women-owned, licensed and fully-fledged Shariah-Compliant microfinance institute which focuses on beginning with the most basic of financial services i.e., savings and access to Shariah-compliant credits. The products and services offered are hinged on developing an appropriate recipe that has special value to our target market. These principal products and services are also easily accessible for all our micro-enterprise operators.

Tijaaro Microfinance contributes to alleviating poverty and bringing an end to the sufferings of the Somali poorest people.  We seek to promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities who are marginalized, and by proving them access to training, technology, network, and finance.

This programme started with the main objective of empowering the disadvantaged but economically active women and youths across Somalia to meet their basic needs and improve their livelihoods. We target women and youth entrepreneurs with ongoing business activities that require capital to fund growth and those who have developed realistic income-generating ideas but are unable to access capital from the formal financial sector.

Our humble beginning was dated back to 2011 when Dr Sadiyo Siad first came back to Somalia to do charity work under the EOW-Charity, helping women in Mogadishu to create their own businesses, by donating $500 each to 10 women with no education, who have small children and no means of support, to set out different, commercially-orientated businesses to make some income. The money was lent as a microloan to the women, as an investment in specific businesses. Recipients were to present a project through which they were confident enough to make some money to feed their families and pay off their loans. The loans were interest-free and the payback was meant to allow us to help more women who are in similar situations.

This initiative was rekindled as a company and renamed as Tijaaro Microfinance mobilizing local women, youths, returnees, and IDPs, to form saving groups and access Shariah-compliant credit. Due to demand, we are now expanding the programme to many parts of Somalia.

We are at the forefront and are striving to reduce poverty among rural and urban women and youths in areas of operation by addressing issues that affect them –lack of access to economic resources, especially credit/ finance; training, networking, access to technology and low commission rates.

We have memberships of women and youths organized into groups across Somalia and we anticipate growing the membership of Tijaaro Microfinance to many other regions across Somalia.
